Emotion Focused Therapy helps make sense of what hurts.

In EFT, emotions are not treated as problems to be removed. They are meaningful signals that can point toward unmet needs, painful experiences, protective patterns and parts of the self that are asking to be heard.

Emotion Focused Therapy

What is EFT?

Emotion Focused Therapy is a psychotherapy approach that helps clients become more aware of what they feel, understand why certain emotional patterns repeat, and gradually transform painful emotional responses into more adaptive ways of relating to themselves and others.

Sessions may involve slowing down, noticing the body and emotions, naming inner experiences, exploring self-criticism or unresolved hurt, and making space for deeper needs such as safety, connection, validation or self-acceptance.

EFT supports clients in noticing emotions, naming what feels difficult, and understanding what those emotions may be trying to protect or express.

  • Who EFT may support People experiencing emotional struggles, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, loneliness, grief, self-criticism, trauma-related emotional pain or life transitions.
  • What happens in therapy The work is collaborative and paced carefully. You are supported to explore your inner world safely, understand protective patterns and contact emotions without being overwhelmed.
  • Why working with emotion matters Emotions often carry the story of what has mattered, what has hurt and what is needed. When approached safely, they can become a pathway toward clarity, compassion and change.
